GXFC U12G Take Fall Title

U12G-Tourney-Champs.JPG

The U12 Girls have been one of the strengths since the inception of Georgia Express. Last year’s squad lost 1-0 in the finals of the ASA Rec Rocks Cup to the South Dekalb Jaguars, the eventual State Rec Champions. With only three returning players from last Spring’s team, it looked like a season of learning was in the works.

The ten newcomers combined with one of our U10G’s playing up and our three returning players to show that they were ready for the challenge. They brought a great work effort, athleticism, terrific attitude, and skills to create a terrific team.

Coaches Bill Hansen and Brian Dunn worked with our trainer, Coach Doug Yearwood, to seamlessly incorporate the GXFC approach to Player Development into their new team.

Several of the players had played for Coach Bill and Coach Brian before, and in some teams that might cause more problems as long-time favorites get the nod on the field. That never happened, especially as the players proved to be flexible in their positions on the pitch. One of the strengths of the team, in fact, was the great spirit that all the players had.

The only blights on their record this season were to U11G Academy teams, a 3-0 loss early in the season against our GXFC U11G team and a 3-1 loss to the Ambush U11G White team.

The team finished the regular season undefeated against teams from the Forsyth Fusion, Peachtree Ridge, and Dawson County. After accepting their trophy and medals for the regular season title Sunday, they completed the season with solid wins against the Fusion Panthers and the Dawson Co U12G Red teams.

Special thanks to Mary Beth Edwards, who did a terrific job as Team Manager all season.
