GXFC U12 Boys Take Challenger Cup

Building on a scoring flurry from the first two games, the Georgia Express U12 Boys finished off a nail-biting final with kicks from the spot to take the Challenger Cup.

Saturday's games yielded two clean sheets for Coach Leo Silva's boys.  Rotating goalkeepers and a stingy defense, the U12 Boys swept past teams from Franklin County and SSA Northside.  With a place in the finals booked, Sunday brought a dawn start against a Stockbridge United team that also was guaranteed a spot in the finals.  The game ended in a draw and set up a championship game that would be a great test.

With one sub in the finals and some challenging circumstances, Georgia Express fell behind by a goal early in the second half.  A goal at the end of the second half tied the game, sending it into two overtime periods.  No goals meant kicks from the mark or a penalty shootout.

With JJ in goal, the Stockbridge players struggled to convert while Georgia Express was perfect with their kicks.  With a final stop, Georgia Express took home top honors before the holiday break.  Congratulations to our champions!
