U13 Boys Take Under Armour Title

GXFC U13 Boys battled through storms and a rough Saturday to knock off two strong teams to take the title. Saturday’s trip to Oconee was a rough wake-up call for the boys. A 0-4 loss to CL-III Oconee SA 00 Red left the team in a tough spot, while another tough result in the afternoon to Oconee SA 00 Black yielded a 1-1 tie.

Sunday brought cancellations throughout Atlanta due to heavy storms. Peachtree Ridge U13 Boys had beaten the team in the Fall. This morning brought renewed focus and effort, with a gutsy 1-0 victory putting GXFC back into the finals against the Oconee SA 00 Red team.

Oconee was riding a wave through the Spring season, finishing runner-up in CL-III with a likely place in CL-II for the Fall. Georgia Express was ready for a tough battle. The boys fell behind 1-0 but quickly equalized at 1-1 where the score remained through regulation and overtime. On to penalties. Coach Delroy’s instructions were simple. Keep your head down through your shot, don’t look to see the result. Back and forth the teams went until Michael Owen buried the convincing shot for a 7-6 win.

The boys have had a great first year at 11v11, finishing in the top third of their division in the Fall and Spring. This victory against two higher-placed teams is icing on the cake!
